Well, even from a source point of view, I don't think we can pretend to 
be GPL anymore as soon as some parts of the code would not be licenced 
as GPL (and I agree that providing this disassembler part as a set of 
patches to apply would be quite ugly).

That's my opinion too. But MAME is such a big project, I'm sure they 
already thought about being gpl, it seems they didn't go for it, so I'm 
not sure of the result.
